High Courts can exercise inherent powers under Section 482 CrPC to quash proceedings under Section 12(1) or orders under Sections 18-23 to prevent abuse of process. Notion that Section 482 inapplicable due to civil nature of DV Act is incorrect. However, High Courts must exercise caution, intervening only in patent illegality or abuse.
