The Supreme Court upheld the death sentences of all four accused, finding the case squarely within the "rarest of rare" category. The brutality, deliberateness, and depravity of the offence, combined with the inhuman treatment of the victim who eventually died, made this one of the most heinous crimes in Indian history. The convicts were executed on March 20, 2020.
