A divorced Muslim woman unable to maintain herself is entitled to maintenance under Section 125 CrPC from her former husband even beyond the iddat period. Section 125 is secular and applies to all citizens. Mahr does not absolve the husband under Section 127(3)(b). The Court urged Parliament to enact a Uniform Civil Code under Article 44.
